R. Mark Cosimini of Rusin & Maciorowski, Ltd. in Champaign has been named the 2020 Volunteer of the Year. Mr. Cosimini was recognized for his many contributions to the IDC.

IDC President William K. McVisk of Tressler LLP in Chicago remarked, “Mark has been an active IDC Member for several years. This year, when the legislature was poised to pass legislation related to COVID-19 which would have seriously undermined the ability of Illinois employers to defend Workers’ Compensation claims, Mark helped IDC to formulate its response to the legislation, with the result that the legislation was much more fair than as originally proposed.”

“There are so many members of the IDC who spend countless hours working for the benefit of the organization and for the defense bar, and I’m honored and humbled to be recognized as one of the many. I question whether I’m worthy of this distinction and whether I’m doing enough, but this type of honor is motivating, and I will strive to continue and enhance my efforts to assist with education, advocacy and legislation,” said Mr. Cosimini.

Mark Cosimini embodies this generosity in all of his work for the IDC. R. Mark Cosimini is the Supervising Partner of the Rusin & Maciorowski Champaign and Carbondale offices and has been with the Firm since 1997. His practice is focused on representing employers and insurance carriers in Workers’ Compensation matters as well as defending liability cases throughout Central Illinois. Mr. Cosimini attended Northwestern University and graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988. He then went on to Northern Illinois University where he earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1992. Mr. Cosimini was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1992 and to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in 1994. He is also a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Champaign County Bar Association, and the Justinian Society of Lawyers. Mr. Cosimini was appointed to serve as a member of the ISBA Workers’ Compensation Section Council (2006-2009). He is former member of the IDC Board of Directors (2012-2016), and he served as the Co-Chairman of the IDC Workers’ Compensation Committee (2008-2010), and the Chairman of the IDC Legislative Committee (2015-2016). Before coming to Rusin & Maciorowski, Ltd., Mr. Cosimini was an Assistant State’s Attorney in Peoria County from 1992 to 1994.
