Why IDC?

For more than 60 years, IDC has been the organization in Illinois where defense attorneys can find support, training, and information to help in the defense of our clients throughout litigation and trial. IDC has been an avid watcher and interpreter of case law for the defense bar. It has been the go-to association for insightful and enlightening analysis of case law, legislation, current trends in the law, and for providing tips of the trade. It has also been a tireless and constant ally to our appellate attorney colleagues via our invaluable amicus committee, whose volunteers prepare briefs that are thoughtful, probing, educational, and persuasive.

IDC gives its members ample opportunities to become more marketable and more knowledgeable of the practice through writing opportunities in its publications, including the IDC Quarterly, the Survey of Law, and committee newsletters, as well as through speaking opportunities in its continuing legal education seminars, webcasts, and academies.

IDC also continues to be an excellent resource for the education of defense lawyers, and particularly new lawyers, with its trial, deposition, and litigation academies. With seemingly less opportunities for new lawyers to get experience, the IDC works continuously to fill that gap.

IDC is also increasingly active in the Illinois legislature, alerting its community to proposed legislation, both good and bad, and advocating, in writing and in person, in favor of beneficial legislation and in opposition to harmful or poorly written legislation.
