Geoffrey M. Waguespack, an associate with the Chicago law firm of Cremer, Spina, Shaughnessy, Jansen & Siegert, LLC, has been named the IDC 2013 Volunteer of the Year. Waguespack was recognized for his many outstanding contributions including serving as chair of the IDC Employment Law Committee, contributor to the IDC Survey of Law and as Executive Editor (and now Editor in Chief) of the IDC Quarterly, for which he also authored the Employment Law Column from 2007-2013.
Inspired by the involvement in the IDC by senior attorneys at his firm, Waguespack decided to get involved. "The IDC has provided me with a statewide network of good, smart, and hardworking fellowattorneys and industry leadersupon whom I canrely not only for advice and counsel on professional matters and business development, but also for fellowship within a group of like-minded, fun, spirited, decent andcharitable people,” Waguespack said. "Although there have been many opportunitiesfor professional growth, I ran my first, official 5K with this organization at Race Judicata, and that event remains my best memory of my involvement, but the spontaneous dinner at Shaw's Crab House after a social event back in 2011 with about10 members young and old(er) is a pretty great memory, too.”
IDC Executive Director Sandra J. Wulf said "Geoff is a fantastic volunteer. His enthusiasm and commitment to the IDC and its core values is evident in all that he does for us. He has improved the association and in turn the defense bar. No one is more deserving of being recognized with this honor than Geoff Waguespack.”
Waguespack’s practice centers on the defense of employment discrimination and construction cases as well as general litigation in the federal and Illinois court systems. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Waguespack served as the judicial law clerk to the Honorable Morton Denlow, Presiding Magistrate Judge for the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, and as a research staff attorney for the Appellate Court of Illinois, Second District. He earned his B.A. from the College of William & Mary in Virginia and his J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where he was a member of a moot court team and served as the Executive Editor of Publications for the Loyola University Chicago Law Journal.
