Alton, Illinois attorney Al J. Pranaitis is the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel’s 2009 Volunteer of the Year. Al served as editor of the IDC Quarterly and won extensive praise from members for his professionalism and attention to detail. A partner in the firm of Hoagland, Fitzgerald, Smith & Pranaitis, Al is an active civil jury trial litigator. He concentrates his practice in product liability, medical malpractice, employment discrimination and civil rights law. Despite his demanding jury schedule, Al managed to donate hundreds of hours on a quarterly basis to his duties as editor of the IDC Quarterly. IDC Executive Director Sandra Wulf said, "When you have someone like Al in charge you know it is going to be done in a timely manner and that the end result is really going to help this association shine.” Wulf is responsible each year for selecting the winner of the Volunteer of the Year Award. She comments that is only through the efforts of many dedicated volunteers that an association like IDC can thrive. But this year, she believes the contributions of Al Pranaitis went above and beyond the call of duty and service. "Al’s work was simply phenomenal,” said Wulf. "He read every article; checked every source. He made sure that the Quarterly rose to the very highest standard of excellence. Al has been a tremendous volunteer for the association for many years. I am very honored to have worked with him and very proud to name him our Volunteer of the Year.” Follow this link to view all Previous Volunteer of the Year Award Recipients.
