David A. Herman of Giffin, Winning, Cohen & Bodewes, P.C. in Springfield, IL received the Illinois Defense Counsel (IDC) Distinguished Member Award presented by IDC President Denise Baker-Seal at the organization’s Annual Meeting held Friday, June 20, 2025.

In presenting the award, President Baker-Seal remarked, “Dave has given many years of service to the IDC, including serving three terms on the Board of Directors. Dave has his pulse on the politics and legislative efforts in Springfield. He provides IDC with valuable and timely insight on activities in Springfield and for many years, has worked to advance the interests of the IDC in Springfield through his involvement and then leadership of the IDC’s Legislative Committee.”

Herman responded, “I am honored and grateful to accept the Illinois Defense Counsel’s Distinguished Member Award this year. To be recognized by an organization comprised of such accomplished, dedicated, hardworking, and principled legal professionals is truly meaningful. Any contributions I’ve made to the IDC have been possible only because I’ve been part of a team and have been surrounded by dedicated colleagues, mentors, and friends who share a commitment to excellence, integrity, and service.”

Herman, of Giffin Winning Cohen & Bodewes P.C. in Springfield, is an experienced civil litigator who has represented clients in complex litigation in both state and federal courts. In his more than 30 years of practice, he has handled hundreds of cases in Illinois state courts, federal courts, and before administrative agencies involving diverse areas of the law. These cases vary in value from small claims cases to cases involving contracts worth billions of dollars.
