Volunteer of the Year Award Recipient

Terry Fox, a partner in the Chicago law firm ofSmithAmundsen, LLC is IDC’s 2011 Volunteer of the Year. Fox, who chairs IDC’s Insurance Committee, was selected for the award which is given to a member for outstanding service to the association and to the Illinois defense bar.

IDC Executive Director Sandra J. Wulf said Fox exemplifies the spirit of volunteering. "Volunteers mean everything to the IDC. At every turn we rely upon them for their knowledge, enthusiasm and dedication. Though he has a very busy practice, Terry always finds time to get involved. Over the past several years he has led our Insurance Committee and has always found ways to make the committee meaningful to our members. Whether it is through committee CLE programs, newsletters, Monographs or reviewing and giving input on pending legislation, Terry is very engaged in making the IDC and the defense community stronger. We are very lucky to have such an exceptional leader as a part of our association.”

Fox who Co-chaired the 2007 Construction Insurance Symposium, and received the IDC President’s Commendation for service to the association and the defense bar in 2008 said membership in IDC has helped him in his practice. "What drew me into the IDC was seeing the quality of people who belonged, the longtime members like Glen Amundsen, Greg Cochran, Mike Resis, Robert Pisani, and Howard Jump to name a few. I thought these are the kind of people I would like to surround myself with, to learn from their success. So while I’ve given to IDC, there has been payback. I’ve picked up practice pointers and tips. I’ve gained knowledge from the many substantive discussions in the committees and conferences. There is just such a level of quality and competence in this association.”

Fox concentrates his practice in tort and employment related litigation. He is the author of numerous articles on employment law and is a frequent guest speaker on topics ranging from E-discovery to commercial construction disputes. Fox currently serves as the chair of the IDC Insurance Committee. He is also counsel for Angel Wings in Illinois, an association providing pro bono services to members of the Armed Forces.
