The 2013 IDC President’s Award winner is Sandra J. Wulf, CAE, IOM, Executive Director of the IDC. President Howard Jump selected Wulf for the award, which honors an individual who has demonstrated outstanding service and commitment to the defense bar.
Jump remarks that "Sandra is the one constant in the IDC. Presidents, executive committees and boards come and go, and it is a great challenge for executive directors of associations to maintain the mission while providing stability and continuity amid the ever-changing leadership environment.”
"I have watched Sandra handle the transitions from president to president, all of whom have different styles and personalities and she does it seamlessly. She embraces change when needed, but never waivers from the IDC’s mission and its core values.”
"Sandra supported my agenda and helped me accomplish things that, alone, I would not have tried. If I had a good idea she encouraged me to act on it. If I meandered off course, she nudged me back on track.”
"She took it upon herself, early on, to educate her officers about fundamentals of association management and by doing so she made us all better leaders.”
"The IDC is very blessed to have such an outstanding executive director and every president owes a great debt to her. I have now moved on, but our Constant remains. Thank you, Sandra. It was a privilege and an inspiration to work with you.”
Sandra came to the IDC in 2006. Prior to joining the IDC, she served 10 years as the President (Executive Director) of the Illinois Association of Mutual Insurance Companies. Sandra started her career in association management with the National Federation of Independent Business, where she served as the Assistant State Director. She is a member of the Illinois Society of Association Executives (ISAE), where she has served on numerous committees and on the board of directors. She served as the 2006 ISAE President and was recognized with the 2000 ISAE Rising Star Award and the 2009 Distinguished Member Award. Sandra earned her Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation in 2001 and the IOM designation in 2004, after attending the US Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management for four years.
Wulf says that serving as the Executive Director of the IDC has been a very rewarding experience. "I receive a tremendous amount of support from our Board and especially our Officers. Since the day I started with the IDC, I have been impressed by our member’s willingness to not just get involved, but really commit to the association. Any success I’ve had as the Executive Director of this group has been because of all of the time and energy our many members put into the association. I am very thankful and honored to receive this award,” she said.
