| DescriptionNavigating the medical field is a challenge for everyone in the legal field, and this is especially true for young attorneys who are new to the practice area. There are certain concepts that are inherently involved in any case in which a party's medical condition is at issue, yet young lawyers do not learn about these concepts in law school and are rarely educated about them when they start practicing. The IDC's Medical Litigation Fundamentals, the first in a series, is designed to help you fill your toolbox.
Panelists for this first event will offer guidance for young lawyers defending a medical malpractice, personal injury, workers' compensation or tort case. They will discuss rules, case law and strategies that are involved in every medical legal case and offer guidance on how to comply with applicable regulations as well as how to successfully defend such cases. Some of the topics we will discuss include: initial case intake and workup, rules governing the dissemination of medical records such as HIPAA and how to comply with them, prohibited communications with treating physicians and the impact of Petrillo, and expert retention.

Join the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel for a panel discussion to learn how to successfully defend medical legal cases.
