IDC Volunteer of the Year Award

James P. DuChateau

Volunteer of the Year Award Recipient

James P. DuChateau of HeplerBroom LLC, Chicago, is the 2019 recipient of the IDC Rising Star Award.

Mr. DuChateau distinguished himself by serving as a member of the IDC Board of Directors, an editor for the IDC Quarterly, a speaker in the IDC Practice Series videos, and an active member of the Events, Insurance Law, and Young Lawyers Committees.

President Nahrstadt remarked “Jim DuChateau doesn’t like the word ‘no.’ If a volunteer is needed, he steps up to the plate and lends a hand.”

IDC Executive Director Sandra Wulf remarked “Our volunteers contribute to the association in so many ways – generously giving their time, energy, enthusiasm and expertise to help their fellow members and the defense community at large. Jim DuChateau embodies this generosity in all of his work for the IDC. Whether he is recruiting new members and volunteers, sharing his expertise, or working through the Board to improve the defense community, Jim is an indispensable member of the association. I am so pleased to recognize Jim for all that he contributes. Congratulations and job well done, Jim!”

“I'm humbled and grateful to have received the 2019 Volunteer of the Year Award from the IDC - an organization that gives so much back to the Illinois legal community and has been my honor to be a part of,” said Mr. DuChateau.

Mr. DuChateau is a partner in the Chicago office of HeplerBroom LLC, where he concentrates his practice in the areas of insurance coverage and commercial law in state and federal courts throughout the Midwest and Mountain West, including the investigation and litigation of first-party property claims, commercial general liability defense, prosecution of declaratory matters for non-coverage under personal and commercial policies, and the defense of bad faith and extra contractual liability matters. Jim counsels both property and casualty carriers during the claim process, and also regularly represents Illinois financial institution clients in both UCC and REO matters, as well as trade secret and restrictive covenant litigation.
