Diverse Thoughts on Diversity

This webinar explores perspectives on diversity in the legal profession from a panel of attorneys with different cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. The panel will include attorneys from various legal work settings and different levels of experience, who look to examine their experiences as diverse attorneys, ways to better understand and embrace diversity, and the beneficial aspects diversity offers the legal profession.

Laura K. Beasley is a member of Baker Sterchi Cowden & Rice LLC in Belleville. Ms. Beasley focuses her practice in the areas of manufacturing, insurance, transportation, pharmaceuticals, and medical device. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Geography in 1996 from Austin Peay University and her law degree from Southern Illinois University School in 2001. She is a member of several bar associations and currently serves as First Vice President of the IDC Board of Directors. She is licensed to practice in both Illinois and Missouri state and federal courts.

Sneha Desai is Deputy General Counsel, Litigation at BASF Corporation in Florham Park, NJ. In that role, she has responsibility for managing the company's litigation portfolio in North America with a team of attorneys and legal assistants, and overseeing litigation-related policies and procedures (including legal hold protocols, outside counsel management, e-billing and e-discovery). She also chairs the Legal Department’s Diversity Team and is responsible for its Outside Counsel Diversity Program. She joined BASF in January 2008, after specializing in complex commercial litigation for several years at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP in New York. Prior to joining the firm, Sneha was a law clerk to the Honorable Justice James H. Coleman, Jr., on the New Jersey Supreme Court. She got her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and her undergrad degree from Villanova University.

Shannon King is an Associate at Roberts Perryman, P.C. in St. Louis, where she practices in insurance defense with a focus on trucking. A 2019 graduate of Saint Louis University School of Law, Shannon served as the Vice President of the Black Law Student Association and was a member of the Student Bar Association. Shannon practices in Illinois and Missouri.

Bradley C. Nahrstadt is Chief Operating Officer at Donohue Brown Mathewson & Smyth LLC in Chicago. As the COO, Brad is responsible for the ongoing business operations of the firm, including recruiting, hiring, training and reviewing associate attorneys, assigning new files, overseeing firm administration and facilitating and coordinating promotional and professional development activities. Prior to joining Donohue Brown, Brad was a partner and one of the founding members of Lipe Lyons Murphy Nahrstadt & Pontikis Ltd. As a practicing attorney, Brad was responsible for all aspects of litigation with an emphasis on defending product liability, medical malpractice, premises liability, insurance bad faith and professional malpractice cases in state and federal courts around the country. Brad has been an active member of the Illinois Defense Counsel and served as President in 2018-2019. He is a member of The American Law Institute, the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, the Chicago-Lincoln Inn of Court, the Claims & Litigation Management Alliance, the Defense Research Institute, the Illinois State Bar Association, the International Association of Defense Counsel and the Litigation Counsel of America.
Untress "Trez" L. Quinn, Sr. is a partner with Armstrong Teasdale, LLP in St. Louis. He focuses his practice on the defense of medical malpractice and other catastrophic loss lawsuits. He has defended multiple complex litigation cases in both state and federal courts involving civil rights, product liability, medical malpractice and wrongful death claims. Trez earned his J.D. from the St. Louis University School of Law and also received a Health Law Certificate from the school’s Health Law program. Prior to his legal career, Trez served as a director of medical-surgical services, as well as a supervisor of interventional radiology and healthcare administrator, totaling more than ten years of experience in the healthcare field. Trez has also served his country as a member of the United States Air Force Reserves for 13 years, where he achieved the rank of First Lieutenant and was awarded the Meritorious Service Award. He was an honor graduate at the 3790th Medical Service Squadron for Medical Service Specialists at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, in 1990. Trez currently serves as the Chair of the IDC Diversity & Inclusivity Committee.

Elaina R. Valtierra is a litigation associate of Lipe Lyons Murphy Nahrstadt & Pontikis Ltd. who focuses her practice on the defense of premise liability, construction liability, transportation liability, and product liability claims. Ms. Valtierra has excellent writing, research, and oral advocacy skills, which is proven through her continued success with dispositive motions. Her ability to handle complex matters provides her with an advantage when advocating for her clients in the courtroom. Ms. Valtierra has experience in all phases of litigation, and has represented clients in jury trials, arbitrations, mediations, and hearings before administrative agencies. Prior to joining Lipe Lyons, Ms. Valtierra served the City of Chicago's Mayor's Office as part of Mayor Rahm Emmanuel's administration. While working with Mayor Rahm Emmanuel's office, Ms. Valtierra was responsible for devising and implementing policies impacting the City of Chicago.
